As I mentioned in a previous blog entry, I wanted to experiment with the mapping capabilities of Drupal and what better subject matter than one of Mark Twain's adventures. His first major book and his most successful is The Innocents Abroad. In 1867 he joined the Quaker City Excursion on a steam ship voyage to Europe and Jerusalem. I've plotted all the major points of interest from this expedition and I present them on a chapter by chapter basis as well as provide an overall list of sites. At this moment there are 308 sites plotted. They all having varying amounts of explanatory matter attached. Much work still needs to be done to make this a valuable source though I believe that it is still a valuable tool. The sites plotted are found in the Quaker City Excursion Itinerary of the Mark Twain Project, University of California, Ian Strathcarron's book War and Innocence, Daniel McKeithan's book Traveling with the Innocents Abroad, the 1867 chapter of Mark Twain - Day By Day by David Fears, not to mention a close reading of the book itself, using The Oxford Mark Twain edition.
