It's been many years since I cared much about professional baseball but when I was a kid I was a Dodger fan. Not just the Dodgers but Duke Snider in particular, not to take away from Koufax or Drysdale. I can even boast of going to the LA Coliseum with my Cub Scout Pack and watching them play. Actually, I really could not see them as I had yet to get my first pair of glasses and most everything on the field was a blur. I had a crystal radio set I built myself and I would sit at my desk with the antenna wire attached to the window screen, listening to Vinnie and Jerry do the play by play. At the time it seemed to me that baseball was a team effort and that they were there because they wanted to play baseball and they wanted to play as Dodgers. The Duke was a team player and he wanted to play baseball. And, he played it well. I don't get that feeling from anyone now in the game, not from anyone in any professional sports team I am aware of, except maybe surfing.
