Working in a retail establishment I'm constantly exposed to piped in music. The selections played in the store I work at have some degree of variety as well as a block of constantly repeated tunes. One of these constantly repeated tunes is a cover of one of my all time favorite songs, Go Now, written by Larry Banks and Milton Bennett and made famous by the Moody Blues in 1964. Not really the same band that later became known for concept albums as the lead singer was Denny Laine, later of Wings. Anyway, the cover of the tune I'm subjected to has been driving me crazy for more than two years. They've butchered the melody and destroyed the rhythm as well as generally messing with the songs poetry.

Tonight I discovered that the band performing the cover is Simply Red. I don't know anything more about this band but just because of what they did to Go Now I don't want to know more. By the way, the Moody Blues version is itself a cover. Check out the version by Bessie Banks for a really soulful rendition.
