This chapter is remarkable to me as it is the first display of Mark's bigotry against Native Americans. One often hears charges of racism and the use of a particular offensive word when thinking of Mark Twain but little is ever said of his disdain for Indians.

I was given a web address for Gothenburg Historical Society and Museum (http://www.gothenburghistory.org/). They maintain that a Pony Express Station does exist in their town. A search of Google Maps does indeed find a location in town and I have included it. What bothers me, however, is that it is the only station on the north side of the river.
