The Quaker City arrived at Marseilles July 4, 1867 at 7:00pm. Sam and companions departed Marseilles July 5th by evening train for Paris. They returned July 12th in the morning.The Quaker City departed Marseilles July 13, 1867 at noon.Mark Twain Project: Quaker City Itinerary

The text has Mark Twain stating that the ship arrived on the 5th: "Toward nightfall the next evening, we steamed into the great artificial harbor of this noble city of Marseilles, and saw the dying sunlight gild its clustering spires and ramparts, and flood its leagues of environing verdure with a mellow radiance that touched with an added charm the white villas that flecked the landscape far and near.
